Did you know Kamakis was one bushy area where animals grazed with only one butchery before the many nyama choma joints? yes that right. Kamakis which is a town located along Eastern Bypass in Ruiru, Kiambu county mostly known for its many nyama choma (roasted meat) joints started with one butchery which was known as Kamakis. The name due to its frequent use has been adopted but officially the area is known as Gatong’ora ward. The population was very scarce due to its inaccessibility and lack of development. But with the completion of Eastern Bypass highway the area has now tremendously grown over the last 10 years with more people building homes and setting up business in the area.

Firstly, the highway which links several highways which include, northern bypass highway, southern bypass highway Thika superhighway has eased transportation in the area. It was initially a two-way road but was turned into a dual carriage road in 2022 which took a period of 1 year. This has reduced traffic and made more regions more accessible. If you reside in Kamakis getting to Nairobi CBD only takes 1hour and 1hr 30 mins to Jomo Kenyatta International airport which along Mombasa Road.

Eastern Bypass has made social amenities easily accessible. The area which is now self-sustained with social amenities like hospitals and schools both public and private, worshipping places, banks e.g., NCBA, Cooperative bank to name a few. Fast food eateries like KFC, Java, art café, pizza and chicken inn are also in plenty. With the completion of the dualling there is no need to travel far or to other regions to this access essential amenities.

Kamakis town serves as an entertainment spot. It is well known for its mouth-watering nyama choma joints and recreational centers that are both family friendly and for adults. The never-ending walk-in customers helps the businesses to stay afloat hence growing the area. This has been made possible by eastern bypass highway that links to many regions. Making it a stop-over for tourist using the route from Jomo Kenyatta airport and business people all over the country.

Eastern Bypass has boosted creation of job employment for people living in and out of Kamakis town. Farmers from Kiambu and Murang’a county can now easily access the area and sell their produce. Recreational centers that increase day by day, companies that offer public transport, industries, schools and hospital among others have improved the livelihood of both people living in and outside Kamakis town.

No need to worry about emergency services like medical services, police response in case of any. They are only a call away and fast, all made possible with different routes in the area.

The dualling has made the area more desirable for residence and commercial use. The value of real estate has gone up, plots that were going at a give away price of Kes.75k are now ranging from Kes.1M to 3M. It’s peaceful and serene environment gives off rural vibes away from the hustle and bustle of Nairobi city. This has attracted more families to settle in the area hence there a sense of community especially for young families with children.

Ultimately Kamakis will only continue to grow especially with its strategic positioning and how accessible it is due to the dual carriage road. With more people moving further from the city, Kamakis is your best bet right now. The plots are affordable and cut into bigger portion than those close to Nairobi CBD. Kamakis is also self-sustained with social amenities. We at Kenya Homes have ongoing projects in Kamakis, that are both affordable and sizable. some of this projects include Bristol Gardens, Simba Courts and Alpha Court Phase II.
