Giving directions accurately is a very important life skill, moreso to a real estate agent. This is because a number of times clients want to pay a site visit on their own or just meet you at the property. The property market in Kenya is still growing. The challenge here is that there may not be enough landmarks to properly direct a client. Despite this, there are still a few tips that may help.

Using Google Maps in Giving Directions

Google Maps offers a couple of different methods for sharing your location. The first is sharing directly in Google Maps itself with people on your Google Contacts list. Alternatively, you can share with clients using a link to a third-party app like Whatsapp. By doing this, clients will just follow the pinned location to get to the property. Technology really makes life easier huh!

Using Landmarks Accurately

If the area is well developed and has well-known social amenities or business centers, use them. Give directions from where they are to where the property is. For example, if the property is in Lavington, you can give direction from The Junction. In addition, you can make use of prestigious surroundings in the area. An example here is the Rusinga School. Prestige is a very strong selling point. Proximity to much-needed areas is always an advantage.

Use Proper Grammar in Giving Direction

First, you need to know important verbs and prepositions when giving directions. The general rule is to use short, concise and accurate phrases. While these questions are worded differently, they all require you to give directions to a specific location. Thankfully, there are many ways to respond using simple, uncomplicated English. Firstly, you could reply by saying something along the lines of: “The easiest way is to…” or “The quickest way is to…”. Once you learn how to express yourself well, directing a client becomes a walk in the park.

Give people rough times and distances

If the client is new to the area, they may like to know roughly how long it will take to get to the site. So, when giving directions, try to give an estimated time or distance. Tell people how long their journey will take by saying something like It’s just around the corner or It will take around five minutes. In addition, tell people how far they have to travel. This could be something like; Continue down this road for about two kilometers. As well as the basics, don’t forget to warn clients of hazards such as speed cameras or a particularly dangerous turning as they will surely appreciate your advice – especially if you know the area well.
